Unable to customize new tab page in Edge (Version 92.0.902.67)

Sorry about the delay ... here are the results of the three suggestions you made:

(1) Disable all the extensions in Edge and try again - there are no enabled extensions:

(2) Create a new profile and open a new tab page using the new profile to see if the gear icon showing - created a new Profile 2 and opened a new tab, but got the same result:

(3) Internet connection problems can lead this issue. Please navigate to ntp.msn.com and check if the connection is working - in fact, I do get the Hmmm... message:

I tried reverting the hosts file to the default (the one in your article with everything commented out) and still got the Hmmm... so I then added "127.0.0.1 ntp.msn.com" to the file and still got the Hmmm... so I ran Windows diagnostics and got:

I suspect that there must be something else going on. I was previously running the Chromium Edge beta (now uninstalled) with no problems, the problem began after Windows Update removed classic Edge.
